• Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (AGSB) — consistently ranked among the top state schools in England
• Altrincham Grammar School for Girls (AGSG) — one of the highest-performing girls' grammar schools in the UK

Both schools are part of the Trafford Consortium and use GL Assessment entrance exam papers. Places at both schools are highly competitive, with demand significantly exceeding supply each year.

Both AGSB and AGSG select pupils using the same Trafford Consortium GL Assessment exam. The exam is sat in September of Year 6 and covers three papers:

• Mathematics
• Non-Verbal Reasoning
